From Monday 7 September 2026, Inner West Athletics will be operating out of temporary storage containers at the southern end of St Luke’s Oval, next to the long jump and triple jump pits, while construction continues on our brand new Athletics Storage Facility. Our canteen will be relocating to the northern end of the oval, near the changeroom toilets, from 7 September 2026.
The exciting news? Nothing changes for you and your family. Friday night competition and our weekly training nights will continue exactly as normal — same days, same times, same great club atmosphere. We’re simply shifting our gear a little further up the ground while the new facility takes shape.
What’s happening
As part of the long-awaited amenities upgrade at St Luke’s Oval, work is now well underway on a fantastic new clubhouse and improved storage facilities that will serve our club — and the wider St Luke’s Oval community — for many years to come.
To keep the project moving, our equipment is relocating to temporary storage containers at the southern end of the oval, next to the long jump and triple jump pits. Our canteen operations will be moving to the northern end of the oval, near the changeroom toilets, from 7 September 2026, so members will know exactly where to find us on the night. Our volunteers have everything in hand, and this move means we can keep running competition and training without missing a beat while the new build progresses.
What this means for you

As with any construction project, there may occasionally be times where setup or pack-up takes a little longer than usual, or where we call on our wonderful volunteers for a bit of extra help. We really appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as we make the most of this exciting upgrade.
New throwing equipment storage on the top field
As part of getting our gear closer to where it’s actually needed, we’ve also installed two brand new custom storage toolboxes on St Luke’s top field, located next to the eastern discus cage. These heavy-duty, lockable, partitioned boxes now house our shotput and discus equipment right at the throwing events area — making setup and access quicker and easier for coaches and officials on competition and training nights.
Why the upgrade matters
This redevelopment has been many years in the making, and delivers a new clubhouse and improved storage facilities that will benefit Inner West Athletics and the wider precinct for decades to come. We’re not the only ones adjusting — our friends at the AFL and cricket clubs are also working around the construction, and together we’re all looking forward to sharing the outstanding new facilities once the project is complete.
This project is proudly funded by the Australian Government and AFL NSW/ACT in partnership with the City of Canada Bay, with a significant contribution from the City of Canada Bay in bringing this long-awaited project to life.
